Author/Editor/Publisher, Barbara Case Summerlin was
born in Mount Airy, North Carolina and grew up in
Stanton, Delaware, just outside Wilmington.  At the age of
fourteen, her family returned to Mount Airy and in 1952
she graduated from Mount Airy High School.  Her roots in
the area date back to the 1770s, to the families of Hawks,
Goad, Snow, Cockerham, McMickle, Eldridge and dozens of
others.

Barbara served as editor of
The Mount Airy News from
1979 until 1994.  From 1994 until December 2003, she
served as Director of The Mount Airy Museum of Regional
History.  She is editor of
Collections and Recollections
(1985), a book celebrating the 100th birthday of the city
of Mount Airy.  She also served as a consultant for Old
Wilkes, Inc. assisting in the development of that county’s
new museum.

In 2005, her book
The Hollows was published and that
same year it was honored with the Willie Parker Peace
History Book Award presented by the North Carolina
Society of Historians.  Barbara published
Wisdom Cometh
With Age
in late 2006 and The Legacy of Ada, A Mountain
Woman
in September 2007.
